I interviewed a new student for the school today and she has been accepted to begin on Monday, September 30th. She is transferring from City College where she was a new 9th grader. Her name is Mary and I’m sure all of the students will welcome her on Monday.
The students will be coming in from 12-4 on Friday, September 20th. The reason is so that we can go see the Lee Daniel’s movie, The Butler. We will go tot he 1:00 showing at the Regal Hunt Valley Movie Theatre and should be back at the school by 4:00. The students do not need any money for this trip unless they want to buy drinks or snacks. Next Friday, we will go back to our regular Friday schedule of 8-12.
One of our new students was dropped from the roll today. It is a reminder that the standards at The Community School are serious and each student must follow the 5 habits and the Honor Code in order to remain in the school. It is never a happy occasion to lose a student and we wish her the best in hopes that she will continue her education and learn from this experience.
We celebrated Claivonda and Kelsey’s birthdays today during lunch. Claivonda’s mom sent in delicious cupcakes and ice cream and Kelsey’s mom sent in more ice cream and a decorated cake that she was thoughtful enough to put both names on. The singing of “Happy Birthday” was a little weak, but I’m sure we’ll get better with practice. I am really glad these two students are with us and look forward to celebrating several more of there birthdays together.
Thanks you to all of those who supported the Joe Corbi’s fundraiser! Nearly $400 was raised with half of that money going directly into the field trip fund. The next Joe Corbi sale will take place in January with delivery in time for Superbowl weekend!

We are still accepting applications and interviewing prospective students. if you know anyone that may be interested in the school, please refer them to the website or have them give me a call. All students will need to have their immunization records up-to-date and in our files before changing status to a permanent student. Here are links to documents from the Maryland Stated Department of Health detailing the vaccines required and a form that you could use with your doctor.
