Conversation with Major Gibson

Conversation with Major GibsonStudents welcomed Northern District Police Commander Major Richard Gibson as part of the “Conversation with…” series today. The Major has consistently shown his availability and openness as well as his support for the students and the school. He brought along Officer Jeanne Saunders and surprise guest Detective Jake Nickles.  Jake attended The Community School and he, his mom Charlene, brothers and sister were an important part of the history of the school from its earliest days. It was especially gratifying to hear his stores of growing up in the neighborhood and the impact that the school (and the predating organization – the Community Survival Center) has had on his life. The presenters shared about their early life challenges, why they became police officers, and the lessons learned and challenges along the way. There was a meaningful and honest dialogue with the students discussing policing methods in the community and there was a genuine appreciation for the character and honesty of each of the presenters. Everyone walked away with a deeper understanding.
