We celebrated Mexican Independence Day today with a terrific presentation by student Iliana Benitez-Cruz. Iliana spoke about the history of her mother country and shared some of the cultural traditions. She came dressed in clothes that she got on the visit to her family in Oaxaca when she was 10 years old. Iliana keeps her family's traditions alive as part of a Mexican folk dancing group. We are proud to have so many people from the Mexican community as part of our school family....

We had an informative, engaging and fun workshop today brought to us by our friends from Done Construction! This innovative, all women led and operated home improvement company did the first of their monthly workshops of the year for the students.. In addition to the workshop, each student was given a tool bag to take home that included a lot of basics and a very cool battery powered drill/driver all complements of Done Construction! The students welcomed Ms. Liz, the Head of The GreenMount School for a conversation today. Much of the dialogue centered around ways that TCS students can work with the younger students from GreenMount. We appreciate our long relationship with Ms. Liz and the wonderful school down the street and are grateful for their support. Thank you Ms. Liz! ...

The students were excited to have Peggy Lashbrook back at the school today for the new term. Ms. Peg is teaching the 9th graders American Sign Language I and the other grades ASL II. Not only that, but she also brought in one of her famous and well-liked delicious well balanced meal for everyone. Ms. Peg makes these nutritious lunches every single Tuesday of the school year! And all of this is done with a 1 1/2 hour drive each way from Delaware! We all deeply appreciate this pillar of The Community School! Welcome Back!...
