The students experienced the play Life is a Dream at the invitation of the Learning and Social Accountability Department of Baltimore Center Stage.  This play was directed by Stevie Walker-Webb who just visited the school this past fall after we watched another of his productions. It was at times tragic, other times hilarious and other times just fantastical. Thank you to Janal Daniel, Director of Learning and Social Accountability and all the folks at Baltimore Center Stage for this kind invitation.

The debt crisis is on the mind of TCS students Madison Hansel and Chase Christou in this week’s TCS Student News broadcast. News around the school includes a special last seminar of the year with the folks from Done Construction, a special showing of the movie Till, a trip to see the Hip Hop Culture exhibit at the Baltimore Museum of Art and more.

We had a fascinating trip to the Baltimore Museum of Art to view the special exhibit The Culture: Hip Hop and Contemporary Art in the 21st Century. The students were captivated by the many works in the exhibit that reflect many of their interests and culture.
Special Thanks to Fleesie Hubbard and Teri Henderson for setting up this tour and offering many insights during our visit. Thanks also to TCS art teacher Leandra Laird for accompanying us and enriching the experience. Gratitude to the BMA for welcoming us and for sponsoring this exhibit.

We had our last Home Repair Seminar of the year with our friends from Done Construction today. They started us off with a delicious Mediterranean lunch followed by a Conversation with their special guest Harry Zhong, Group Project Manager at Stanley Black & Decker. He talked about his education in engineering that led him to product design and improvement. Harry works very closely with the folks from Done who give feedback on their tools including working with prototypes in progress.

The seminar wrapped up with the folks from Done talking about their favorite tools. The students talked bout their favorite home repair seminars this year and Done sharing ideas about next year.

We are so appreciative of all the folks from Done Construction – Beth, Sarah Senior, Catesby, Sarah Junior, and Kristin – for some great seminars this year! thanks as well to Harry Zhong for coming in today.

This week’s TCS Student News takes a deep dive into changes in state law on immigration in Florida. You’ll hear about a special seminar with Dr. Paul Sack on the endocrine  System, a Conversation with Dr. Jasmine Blanks Jones, Executive Director of the Johns Hopkins University Center for Social Concern, and a host of seminars and special announcements.

Our thanks to Dr. Paul Sack, Head of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Medstar Union Memorial Hospital for coming in for a “Conversation with…” today. He shared about his early interest in medicine and the path that led him to his career before speaking about the endocrine system and answering the students’ many questions from their studies.

Dr. Sack was very generous with his time and his easy and open manner made the scientific subject very accessible to all.
