Check out this week’s broadcast of TCS Student News by Kendall Curtis and Danny Buck with a lead story with current items in the news out of Mexico. Stories around the school include an exciting art project completed by the students in Ms. Leandra’s class, a Conversation with Photojournalist Jim Burger, the latest Financial Literacy Seminar with our friends at Berman McAleer the return of American Sign Language Class with Ms. Peggy and more.

Today’s “Conversation with…” was with master storyteller and photojournalist Jim Burger. Jim talked about his life and career with much of the conversation focusing on his book “What’s Not to Like?” It is an amazing collection of photographs and stories by Jim over his 40 year career. Jim kindly gave each student a signed copy which they looked at in advance of his visit so the students had loads of questions based on the work.
We are fortunate to have Jim as a long time friend and neighbor of the school and as a part of our community.

Check out this week’s broadcast produced by Jayla Nickens-Gill and Ethan Christou with a lead story on current events in Brazil from the death of soccer star Pelé to the inauguration of their new President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. TCS stories include a conversation with alumnus USAF Sgt. Evan Green, another with Ed Meade about his recent trip to Antarctica and Argentina, a special CPR seminar and other happenings around the school.

Today, we had a fascinating “Conversation with…” Ed Meade about his recent 3 week long trip to Argentina and Antarctica. He shared many photos and maps of his journey including explanations of the harsh, but well preserved and stunning ecosystem there. Mr. Meade is a teacher at Mother Seton Academy and a sponsor for one of our students. Thanks Ed!

Through a partnership with the University of Baltimore, students have successfully completed Math 115 Introductory Statistics and earned college credits. We are deeply thankful to U of B, their dual enrollment team – John Brenner and Philippia Richardson, and Professsor Adejokea Ajayi who taught the course at the school with professionalism and care. This course was open for all 10th grade through 12th grade students – ALL of whom passed. Congratulations to our hard working students!

We welcomed Class of 2010 TCS Alum Evan Green back to the school today.  Evan has been in the U.S. Air Force for the last 6 years where he has reached the rank of Sergeant.  He is currently stationed in Nevada though he also did a nearly 3 year stint at Aviano Air Base in Italy. Evan talked extensively about his travel and military experience. The students were keenly interested in his time at The Community School and growing up in Remington although discussion extended into favorite musical artists and sports figures. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the conversation with another proud graduate of The Community School.
