Through a partnership with the University of Baltimore, students have successfully completed Math 115 Introductory Statistics and earned college credits. We are deeply thankful to U of B, their dual enrollment team – John Brenner and Philippia Richardson, and Professsor Adejokea Ajayi who taught the course at the school with professionalism and care. This course was open for all 10th grade through 12th grade students - ALL of whom passed. Congratulations to our hard working students!...

We welcomed Class of 2010 TCS Alum Evan Green back to the school today.  Evan has been in the U.S. Air Force for the last 6 years where he has reached the rank of Sergeant.  He is currently stationed in Nevada though he also did a nearly 3 year stint at Aviano Air Base in Italy. Evan talked extensively about his travel and military experience. The students were keenly interested in his time at The Community School and growing up in Remington although discussion extended into favorite musical artists and sports figures. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the conversation with another proud graduate of The Community School....

We had the amazing honor of having a Conversation with former U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski today. She talked about her childhood growing up in Highlandtown and her lifetime of service to the people of Baltimore and beyond as a member of the City Council, U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. Barbara Mikulski was the first women in Maryland to be elected to the U.S. Senate where she served for 30 years. The students asked questions about the issues that they are concerned with like women's rights and violence, but also about her growing up and early experiences. Senator Mikulski was generous with her time and spoke candidly with the students. She commented on how well informed the students are and how much she enjoyed the conversation as well. Our deepest thanks to Senator Mikulski for her years of service and her kindness to us. And special thanks to former Baltimore City Council President Mary Pat Clarke for helping to arrange this visit and for joining us for the conversation. ...

We had a very meaningful conversation with Carlos Payes, owner of Remington's Café Los Sueños. Carlos talked about growing up in the mountains of El Salvador and the challenges of living in a meager shack and working in the coffee plantations starting at the age of 7. He spoke about the challenges trying to get an education and dealing with the violent gangs and his difficult trip to the U.S. Carlos also shared his drive to make a better life and his determination to build and own his coffee roasting business and cafe. He is another example of the contributions that immigrants make and have always made to this community and our country. We are fortunate to have him as a part of our community and for his sharing of his story. Thank you Carlos!...
