Conversation with Rona Kobell
Rona Kobell was the guest for our “Conversation with…” this week. Rona is a seasoned reporter whose work can now be seen in the Baltimore Banner. Much of her work has focused on environmental justice and she is cofounder of the Environmental Justice Journalism Initiative (EJJI).
Rona spoke some of the projects EJJI is working on including a film about the African-American community on Deal Island on the Eastern Shore and their struggles with the effects of climate change and government neglect. The wide ranging discussion also included topics such as challenges faced by women in journalism and some history on anti-semitism in Baltimore.
Rona is a friend of The Community school and worked with us last summer as our students were documenting conditions in the Remington community. We appreciated her generous sharing of time and story.
