Student City Council Members

Students at Baltimore City CouncilWhat an experience students from The Community School had today!  The class spent the morning at Baltimore City Hall starting off with a tour, meeting the Mayor, President of the City Council, City Comptroller, Finance Director and a host of other elected and government officials. During a Board of Estimates meeting, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake took time from the agenda to speak about the long history of The Community School and congratulating the students on their achievements.

After a tour with the City Hall curator, the students went to work in City Council Chambers where City Councilwoman Mary Pat Clarke conducted the last session in her Baltimore seminar continuing the class that the students have had with her for the past several weeks. The students had two mock sessions where they exchanged roles as city council members and citizens presenting testimony. Special thanks to Council President Jack Young for taking the time to talk with the students and for making an on-the-spot major contribution to the school. We are beyond grateful to have Councilwoman Mary Pat Clarke as a part of the school for so many years and for setting up this unique and amazing experience.
