A feast for the eyes and a challenge to our thinking – That was our experience yesterday as we visited the American Visionary Arts Museum. This unique Baltimore gem features art in a wide variety of mediums from untrained artists with no shortage of creativity, talent or vision!
This is well worth a visit and we are looking to return in the Fall.
Our thanks to museum Co Executive Director Valerie Williams for inviting us, Diamond Gray for welcoming us and Mr. Ted for introducing and explaining various pieces of art to us including the back story behind the works. It was an amazing experience!

Congratulations to TCS Alumni Olivia Yates for graduating summa cum laude from the University of Baltimore with a 4.0 average. Olivia has also been accepted into their law school and will be starting in the fall. Her career goal is to practice human rights and worker’s rights law. We are proud of the young woman that Olivia has grown into, celebrate her accomplishments and support her dreams! Way to go Olivia!

We had a most amazing time visiting the offices of our friends at Berman McAleer (BMc). These kind folks have been conducting monthly Financial Literacy Seminars for our students for several years now. Virtually the whole company suspended operations for several hours to meet with our students, both in small groups and individually, to talk about the student’s career goals and answer their financial questions. The students also had a tour of the BMc offices and learned about both BMc’s work and their admirable workplace culture. Another highlight was the lunch where the staff from BMc shared food and conversation with the students.

We deeply appreciate the generosity that BMc has shown for our students and school. Our thanks extends to the founders, partners and all of the staff who so thoughtfully showed such care for our students, listening to their dreams and plans, and sharing their wisdom with them. A special thanks to kathleen Gower for co-ordinating this effort. Thank you all for a great year and a memorable day!

We saw the classic play “The Importance of Being Earnest” by Oscar Wilde at Center Stage today. this Victorian Era play was like an old soap opera with great characters and witty lines.

As always, the folks at Center Baltimore Center Stage treated us kindly not only by inviting us to the play, but also giving us seats right on the stage for an up close and personal experience. This was the last play of the year and we are so thankful for all of the folks at Center for how they enrich our lives and the cultural offerings in Baltimore.

A special thank you to Janal and Emily who are the team that does the youth programing for Center Stage and coordinates the partnerships with schools!

Friend of the school Joe Manko came back to TCS for a “Conversation with…” today.  Joe is the Program Officer for Education of The Abell Foundation.  The Abell Foundation is a long time supporter of the school and Mr. Manko has been a big part of this for the last 5 years.

Joe not only shared his own life journey that included a stint in Teach for America and being teacher and principal in the Baltimore Public School System, but he also was keenly interested in the students and their experience in our school. The students and Mr. Manko had a lively conversation sharing their views about problems and solutions in the education systems as well as sharing their hopes and goals.

We deeply appreciate our relationship with Mr. Manko and The Abell Foundation and are thankful for their belief in our students and program.
