On behalf of the entire TCS community, we welcome Professor Mikita Thompson. She is teaching a college level computer science course through the University of Baltimore at our school twice a week. This enables our students to pick up some useful skills and knowledge while adding to their college credits in our dual enrollment program. Professor Thompson brings her experience in computer science and cyber forensics as well as the application of these skills with her background in business and entrepreneurship. Our thanks to John Brenner and Philippia Richardson from the Early College Initiatives program at the University of Baltimore for once again providing a professor on site to teach our students....

Mike Gallo came back to the school for another "Conversation with" the students. Mike spoke about his life growing up in Chicago, troubles on the street and in school to becoming a national executive of the Minolta Corporation. He shared the many lessons he learned along the way including his strong beliefs in respecting every person and in hard work and dedication in every task a person takes on. A special shout out to Alumni and Board of Trustee members Dave Bayer and Donald Lacy for coming to the rescue. They were at the school yesterday afternoon and noticed a problem with a slippery and potentially dangerous situation with ice in the passageway between our buildings. Putting their minds together and working with old shelving and other materials around the school, they built a ramp that covers the area and lets the water pass under it. They built this ramp today and it works great! We are so fortunate to have such "can do" people as part of our school community who see a problem and don't wait for someone else. but step up to the plate and take it on. Thank you Dave and Donald for fixing this problem and for being such great examples! ...

We had a special seminar on investing in our monthly Financial Literacy series today. The students learned that putting just a dollar a day away, investing in the stock market and letting the earnings and deposits remain invested will yield big results over time. In 40 years, a $30/month investment will yield about $160,000 with an investment of $14,000 total in that time. This series is sponsored and staffed by Berman McAleer under the guidance of Kathleen Gower. Today's presenters were Brian Carroll, Adam Murray and Adaiha Montgomery. They guided the students through a number of exercises to understand the value and mechanics of the investing process. The students interest was evidenced by their active engagement and many thoughtful questions. Thank you Adaiha, Adam, Brian and Kathleen and all the folks at Berman McAleer for the lunch and the seminar!...

"This is Who I Am." This was the theme for this past week's theatre seminar. The students dug deep within themselves, reflected, and then shared their thoughts with each other. It was a reminder that even those who spend nearly every day with each other are more than we see or know. The class was led by Denise Kumani Gantt, Education Director at The Lyric. Antonio Eyez perfectly set the mood with his guitar playing throughout the session. We are thankful to them both for this special seminar. ...

42 years ago today in the basement of the Guardian Angel Church on the corner of 27th and Huntingdon Avenue, the first classes of The Community School were held. We only had scrap paper, pencils and newspapers and loads of determination. Without that bold start and belief in what we could achieve, the school would not still be serving students all of these years later. Our deepest gratitude to all of the people who made this school possible along the way through today. ...
