Thank you to all of our friends at Baltimore Center Stage for inviting us to attend the play Our Town today! It was an amazing performance that captivated all of the students. It was entertaining and thought provoking at the same time. This contemporary and homegrown version of the Thornton Wilder work was interpreted and made recognizable for our students by director Stevie-Walker Webb, the actors and all those who put on the performance. The play is running through early October and we unanimously recommend that you go see it!
Center Stage has enhanced the educational experience of our students for years through inviting us to attend their plays, providing playwriting seminars, giving a private tour of their departments and facility and by their staff visiting our school for conversation. We are so grateful for Baltimore Center Stage!!

Tonight had to be one of the best Sponsor/Student meetings we ever had! There was a lot of personal sharing by students, parents and sponsors about overcoming difficulties on the path to success. The support and sense of community were inspiring.
The meeting started with an advanced special preview of TCS Student News for this week by Chase and Kevin that received rave reviews!
This year is off to a great start! We have much to be thankful for!

We had a really terrific “Conversation with..” two recent alumni today – Claude Nicholson (Class of ’21) and Ronan Guilfoyle (Class of ’22). They talked about their experiences in college as well as at TCS. The students had a lot of questions about both. Claude and Ronan gave a lot of advice and insight into how to make the most of your years at TCS and how it will prepare you for life and college if you do.
Ronan is in college with a dual major in Cinematic Arts and English. Claude is in his second year at Loyola University in a 5 year Bachelor’s/Master’s program in accounting.
It was a real pleasure having these two graduates in for a conversation. We are very proud of them.

We were honored to have a “Conversation with…” Chef Steven Albright at the school today. He is the Executive Chef at the noted Washington D.C. restaurant Cuba Libre though we met him as the Culinary Director of the Franciscan Center. Chef Steve transformed their program feeding the hungry and homeless and created a 12 week culinary arts program preparing those who use their services and others in need for jobs and a career.

Chef Steve talked about his own transformation from being addicted and incarcerated into a life of purpose and service. He candidly shared the story of his ups and downs with the students and the lessons learned along the way. It was both moving and meaningful.

Not only did he fill our hearts and challenge our heads, but he filled our bellies as well! Chef Steve brought Cubano sandwiches, rice and beans, fried plantains and 3 kinds of deserts – tres leches, rice pudding and flan. All were made fresh and provided by Cuba Libre!

This is Chef Steve’s 2nd visit to the school this year and we worked with him and his staff volunteering at The Franciscan Center. We are fortunate to have Chef Steve as a part of the school community and look forward to his return for some future cooking classes.

Check out this week’s edition of TCS Student News produced by Rhys Guilfoyle and Bre’Onna Clowney with technical support from Ronan Guilfoyle.. It includes a major story on Taiwan and updates on what’s been happening around TCS including Conversations with our friends from Berman McAleer on Wednesday and Janiah Tillery on Friday.

On the same stage where Amelia Earhart once spoke, Marian Anderson sang and Chris Rock performed, stood the students of The Community School! Touring The Lyric on Thursday was the first of a year long, every other week seminar conducted by talented artists and performers Denise Gantt and Ebony Evans and The Lyric Foundation for our students. The students walked through this century plus old Baltimore landmark performing arts center getting to see the areas not usually opened to the public – behind the stage, practice areas and the dressing rooms. As part of the day, the students also each did a mini-performance. This is our second year working with The Lyric and we deeply appreciate their kindness to our students and school.
