It was really terrific to see several of our friends from Berman McAleer yesterday. Joe McAleer, Patrick Monaghan and Kathleen Gower came in for a “Conversation with…” They shared stories about their education and career paths and the lessons learned along the way. It was a lively session with a lot of questions and comments from students and guests alike.

The students have left the building….and met up with their physical education teacher! After sitting in class, everyone looks forward to their time with Mr Eduardo! He is an extraordinary teacher and mentor! Thank you Mr. Eduardo and The GreenMount School for expanding the opportunities for our students again this year!

The students welcomed Ms. Liz, the Head of The GreenMount School for a conversation today. Much of the dialogue centered around ways that TCS students can work with the younger students from GreenMount. We appreciate our long relationship with Ms. Liz and the wonderful school down the street and are grateful for their support. Thank you Ms. Liz!

The students were excited to have Peggy Lashbrook back at the school today for the new term. Ms. Peg is teaching the 9th graders American Sign Language I and the other grades ASL II. Not only that, but she also brought in one of her famous and well-liked delicious well balanced meal for everyone. Ms. Peg makes these nutritious lunches every single Tuesday of the school year! And all of this is done with a 1 1/2 hour drive each way from Delaware! We all deeply appreciate this pillar of The Community School! Welcome Back!

Everyone sure was glad to have Mr. Don back for writing class today! He continues to work his magic and brings out the best!

Following tradition, our first in our Friday series of “Conversation with…” was with the TCS Board of Trustees. It was an important and inspiring conversation with great sharing by both students and the trustees. The students shine in these settings with their honest sharing and curiosity.

Each of the trustees have long histories with the school – Justin and Dave as alumni, Stacy and Jeanette as parents and sponsors, and Fleesie as a baby who was born into the school community. Two trustees – Janiah, who is a TCS graduate and Eddie, who was a founder of the organization when he was only 13, were missed.

The students were particularly interested in the experience that the trustees had when they were students in the school or had their family members as students.

There was a clear bond that developed between the students and the trustees that inspired and encouraged both and will allow each to be better in their roles in the school.
